ABOUT ME
Read about my professional profile throughout the years.
Demi was born in Sittard on August 1, 1993. She was raised in Nieuwstadt and at only three years old, had her first training with a (half) squash racket, hand-modified by her father. In the following years, Demi played tennis at TC Born, and then at eight years old, she started to train in Belgium at the LTA. At the time of writing, Demi is still training at LTA in Maaseik. Demi was an active kid, combining tennis and soccer from 6-12 years old. With the higher risk of injuries in football, she decided to stop and moved to focus 100% on tennis. From the age of 17, Demi started to play professionally.
In 2011, she reached one of her career highlights as she qualified for all 4 Grand Slam junior finals in doubles and won the Australian Open and US Open. Even more notably, she did this with four different doubles partners. When she turned 18 she had to move from juniors to seniors, she had to start from the beginning again, working to climb her way up from the bottom. The hard work paid off in 2012 when she got selected for the Netherlands Fed Cup team, ‘’I feel that’s where my tennis career started’’. In 2015, she chose to put her focus 100% on doubles, which turned out to be a good decision, as later that year, she won her first WTA in Katowice and her second in Boekarest. Since then, she has competed in the main draw at the Grand Slam events. In 2018, she became top 10 in the world, and for the past 6 years, she has since remained ranked in the top 20.
